About

Bibliotrek may have started with the pun on bibliothéque, but this blog is really about my bookish journey into the unknown. I’m lucky to have a position as a visiting professor at a small liberal arts college for the 2010-11 school year, and after that, it is a mystery!

Mostly I post about non-academic matters here, specifically the books I read for fun. In my academic work, I’m interested in the popular culture of early modern England, and I’m similarly interested in the popular genres of our culture: science fiction, fantasy, romance, and the various genres classified these days under “young adult.” These genres are severely underrated, in my opinion. After all, Shakespeare wrote the popular genres of his day, too: chronicle history, revenge tragedy, festive comedy. Intelligent critiques of pop culture never go out of style.

For the FTC: A Note on Book Reviews

Any books I review I have either bought myself or checked out from the library.
